Playgrounds

Synthetic grass has come a long way since the days of the old artificial carpet. The latest synthetic grass products consist of synthetic fibers and an in-fill material of sand and/or recycled rubber crumb. Today, synthetic grass is being used as an alternative surface for playgrounds. ProGreen International, Inc. a synthetic turf company since 1987 has a playground grass product line, Playground Extreme™. Playground Extreme™ is designed for playgrounds with safety as the first priority. The 3” high polyethylene fibers and 4 pounds of rubber crumb per square foot gives the product maximum fall cushion. Company President Steve Walker says, “Spiral fractures are greatly reduced due to the sideways movement of the fall. Kinetic energy is dispersed in all directions. The density of the synthetic fiber and a healthy dose of recycled rubber crumb make this possible. Unlike wood chips, the rubber stays in place. It even looks like natural grass, and it’s half the cost of a pour-in-place rubber surface.”

Children's Safety
Synthetic grass playgrounds have been gaining in popularity over the last decade. The big advantage that synthetic turf has over any other type of surface material is SAFTEY. A properly installed synthetic grass system that employs 3 lbs. of silica sand infill per sq. ft., with our Tiger Pads placed underneath the turf, has a big advantage over the alternative playground material surfaces. The downfall of rubber or wood chips is that there is no way to guarantee that the chips will stay in place. It's a fact that if left unmonitored, the chips will displace from the important landing areas. Should somebody get injured due to lack of daily maintenance (moving the displaced chips back in place), the owner is exposed to liability.
